Cupcake Goodness
So a friend of mine found a recipe for Grasshopper cupcakes on the blog sixoneseven. I just made a batch and they are absolutely wonderful!
There is a York peppermint patty on the inside. Mmmmm.....
I'm taking these to the Rendezvous sewing circle in the morning.

I think Jayne and Casey knew I was baking with chocolate or something, because when I got back to the computer they both had given me this lovely award. Thanks, ladies! If I could send you mint chocolate cupcakes in the mail I would. ;-)

Anticipation
I now get to stalk the mailbox while I wait for no-hole beads from KITZ!and 1:12 scale spooky labels by Deadspider! I'm so excited!
The beads I need for several projects and the labels are going to be used in my "Witches Kitchen" that I'm putting in a pumpkin.

Here is the first robin I saw this year. The picture is a tad fuzzy since I had to take it from inside the office. If I had opened the door he would have surely flown away.I'm off to get some mini-ing done. Didn't feel too well yesterday after the visit to the vampires, I mean nurses who drew blood for tests. ;-)

From My Stash 3-18-09
This week I've dug out a kit that a friend bought for me at the Goodwill store. It had already been opened and painted. I'm not sure what I am going to do with it when I put it together.
I know from the label that it's a Real Good Toys Four Seasons Porch. However I've never seen a picture of one put together. This will might help me be more creative with it.
The pieces all seem to be present. The packing list doesn't list windows or a door so I will have to find some to use. There is a piece of plexiglass in the box that was purchased separately. It still has a price tag form Hobby Lobby on it.
The paint doesn't look bad. I might leave ti alone depending on what I decide to do with the kit. This picture isn't the best, but it should give you an idea of what it looks like.
So far I've debated making a country-style porch, a haunted house porch, a Victorian porch where the decor changes to fit the real seasons... So many ideas. Any more ideas out there that nobody minds sharing?

As party politics are not even remotely on topic, the last post and all comments were removed in order to make the internet (or at least my corner of it), a better and more civil place. I understand the need for and importance of political discussion, but I do not believe that this is the place for it. I apologize for any unnecessary drama.

Where I went to university there is a week-long party attached to St. Pat's. We even got some days off of school in lieu of having any time off around Easter. That party just celebrated it's 101st year.
There are occurrences of blatant drunkenness throughout campus, even in classrooms. This is not restricted to only students. A handful of professors I encountered in my time there also succumbed to the temptation.
This is what happens when a small school in the midwest figures out that Saint Patrick is the patron saint of engineers. There is even a large bronze statue of the saint in the university library.
I think a Guinness sounds really good right now. Too bad there are none in the house.

A Rant on Filth
Clutter is a state of normalcy. It happens in every home where people live and spend time toghter as a family and spend money on hobbies instead of a cleaning service. I am at peace with clutter, but I try to keep it to a minimum.
Filth happens when someone cannot or will not clean anything. Filth is when a room is so full of stuff that a person is unable to walk through it, much less try to clean it.
When you barely have walkways through a room that is stacked chest high with books, magazines, fabric, toys, collectibles, and the-gods-only-know-what-else you really need to see about throwing things away.
When the wall is ammonia hits people when they walk through the front door you need to be able to find the places where the cats have had a wee. And when books have been peed on write the title and author down on a notepad and throw the books out.
When knickknacks that are not heirlooms are broken and beyond repair turn up... throw them out.
When your craft supplies are being nested in or have been (again) peed on... throw them out.
When your friends, who obviously love you, come to the house to try and make paths for you and a walker or wheelchair to move through because you broke your ankle... listen to them when they say some things need to go.
It breaks their hearts to know you are living in the filth, even by your own choice. It's more heartbreaking to know you have your pets living their too.
For your sake and the sake of your pets, please let us help you find things new homes. Please let us help you throw out what is not salvageable. Please let us help you help yourself.

Spring Fun
FH and I took the bunnies outside yesterday so they could play in the yard. Tempie was having a decent time until a particularly obnoxious neighbor child came over and pestered her. 'Bert was his usual terrified self. I would like to note that he was as relaxed as possible for him until the boy came into the yard.
Hopefully I can take him out this week during the day when the children are all at school. He should have a more enjoyable time then. I am thinking his harness has gotten a wee bit tight around his middle too. So we may be replacing it soon. Too many treats and not enough time to run them off.

Poe, part 6
Last night I printed out the first 8 stanzas of "The Raven" on beige cardstock, cut it to fit the book, and sprayed the ink-side with varnish. This afternoon I glued it in place.
I'm getting to the point where I will be "waiting on parts," which was frequently heard back in the labs at university. Projects, theses, presentations, and term papers were often delayed by waiting for parts to arrive.
At this point all I have left to do with supplies that are in the house is fashion the illusion of a door, make a small book, and sculpt the raven and bust of Pallas.
I am looking for the right shade of dark purple silk for the curtains and a similar color of micro-velvet to upholster the chair with. I would be happy with enough "violet velvet" to make a pillow for the chair and make the chair itself another color. Any ideas on where to look?
When payday rolls around I will be ordering a portrait (Lenore) and wall sconces for candles. And some crown molding if I cannot find enough in the leftovers.
I will also be experimenting with a scrap of the leather to see what I will use on the front cover to have "The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe" in silver. I don't know if silver leaf will work with the pig leather or not. But I'm going to try. Failing that I will make a stencil and paint it on. I will be decorating the spine similarly.
If anyone noticed the little filigrees in the picture and wondered, I'm thinking of putting some sort of flowery things in them and having them on either side of the portrait, but I am not sure how they will look. It might be too busy if I do that. But I don't want to loose them either. So I tossed them into the book for safe-keeping.
