This is what the workroom looked like before I went to bed Thursday night/Friday morning:
The laundry basket is full of "stuff" from the sewing table when it was upstairs. I moved the miniature books to the light-colored bookcase and the fiber and textile books are in the darker bookcase. It's difficult to tell, but the big table in the back has less junk on it. There's still quite a bit to sift through though.
Patterns come down next and get filed. I stacked both small filing cabinets in order to save some room. Then I get to sort through the table and random boxes filled with things from the old dresser that used to occupy the back wall. Oh and reclaim my laundry basket.
Crafting, musings, critters, and whatever else springs to mind.

Controlled Chaos
Of a fashion anyway.
Certain circumstances (of a personal nature) have dictated that I should recombine my sewing room with the miniature room again.
On the upside:
* this is a much larger space than what I had to work with in the old house
* I won't feel cut off from FH in the evenings when he's home and I need to sew
* I won't need to use the dining room table for layouts and cutting anymore, allowing that room to stay de-cluttered easier
* no more pausing the movie and running upstairs to fetch something I've forgotten for a stitching project
The downside:
I have to completely clean AND reorganize everything, including the storage room in order to pull this off.
Day 1 of reorganizing:
Day 2 of the same:
The sewing table, a small bookshelf, and the sewing machines are the only remaining "large" items that still need to move down here. Books, supplies, tubs of fabric and yarn, patterns, etc still need to come down as well. I'm attempting to work on what's down here first, at least until I need that little bookshelf to put things on it. I'm also taking the time to cruise through chunks of stash and get rid of things I really will never use or have no interest in keeping.
It will probably be sometime next week before the space is usable for anything. Then I get to rearrange the storage room and put up shelves so I can get to the tubs of fabric and yarn, and really just about anything in there, without drowning in boxes.

Moving Saga
As soon as we had the keys to the new house I started cleaning, painting specific rooms, and moving minis and other fragile things. Many of my friends helped in this endeavor. Holly's Suburban carried over all the dollhouses in two trips.
Friday, the day before we were to move, FH got a phone call form UHaul. Apparently the 26 foot moving van we ordered was not to be found anywhere in the metro area and would we, "please accept a 14 foot truck for 2 days with 120 free miles for $75 instead?" Since we had no other options, we said yes. This is what we got. Please notice the precipitation in the from of snow.
So Saturday morning FH went and picked up the "tries to be a moving truck" and we got to work. For the record, Saturday was absolutely gorgeous. The sun was out in full force and most of the snow had melted away at the old house. Several of our friends showed up to help us and we made short work of the packed boxes and the majority of the furniture. Then we went back for a second load. All but five large-ish furniture pieces fit in the truck that time and I had time to throw some more boxes together while people loaded furniture.
It was turning out to be a decent day. Boxes from the first load were neatly stacked in the new garage since we had to wait on furniture to arrive in the second load. The critters were all sequestered in the office at the old house. By the time the second truck load had been emptied it had gotten colder. A friend and I went back to get all the animals and their assorted accouterments.
I installed towel bars in the bathroom and hung the shower curtain so we could wash the grit and sweat off before crawling under clean sheets. The blinds that I bought that evening for out bedroom didn't fit because they were too deep. FH rigged curtains using old towels (which ended up staying there for about a week and a half) and we collapsed for the night.
Sunday morning proved to look cloudy and cold. FH and I saddled up and took the truck and our car to the old house and threw the last of the furniture in. He then drove the car back to the new house because the cable guy was coming to hook up our internet. I stayed behind and loaded everything from the garage and whatever else I could fit into the truck. Then I packed more of the errata that had been left behind. While I was working, the rain started. I dealt with the rain by backing the truck up as far as I could to the garage's opening. It worked great and everything stayed dry.
By the time FH was able to come back he said it was snowing at the new house... which is all of a twenty-five minute drive north-east of the old place. He took the loaded truck and headed home while I stayed and loaded the car. By the time I got within three miles of home the snow fall had turned into a full winter storm.
FH had most of the truck unloaded when I got there, so I cleared the passenger seat of the car and we headed out to drop off the truck before 5pm. FH said the truck fish-tailed in the snow, but I barely noticed. We got the truck dropped off and decided we were going out for dinner since we were already out in the mess and the kitchen was still packed.
Luckily while we sat in the warmth of our favorite Mexican restaurant most of the storm cleared and we made it home safely. This is what we woke up to Monday morning.
That afternoon my mother drove up from Missouri to help me finish packing up the old house and cleaning it. Since we had the little truck for two days and I was able to empty out the garage on Sunday, we had more time to relax, go shopping, and work on the new house.
The snow is just now beginning to melt away and reveal the yard.
More pictures of changes later. For now I need to get back to work.

Picture Teasers
There will be more pictures as things are updated and whatnot, but here are a few that I took this evening on our final walk-through.
Front of the house. There are more trees in front and once the snow melts I know there are garden beds.
The kitchen that needs some work.

Built-in book cases in the living room. They also need some love.
FH and Awesome Realtor* looking out the living room window onto the deck.
Little D* and Hummingbird* went with us to the closing. Here is Hummingbird in front of the family room window that looks out onto the sun porch. You can also see the retro fire place that we're going to replace with a wood burning stove.
The family room also has a bar.
View of the back of the house from the yard. There are lots of deer in the area. One had even bedded down in the yard. FH is hoping to fix that problem.
There will be more pictures as specific projects/rooms have work done on them.
*As always, names are changed to protect anonymity...especially for the kids.

House Stuff
Some people have been asking about pictures. I plan on taking my camera with on the day we close to get some good ones for everyone to see. I thought about taking it with me on the day of the inspection but I didn't want to tempt the fates in some way. Since we found a major electrical issue with the inspector that morning, I'm glad I didn't. The problem was bad enough that we could have walked away from the contract with no penalty... but it's currently being repaired so no worries.
I thought about starting a blog for the house repairs/remodeling but decided against it. You all will just have to keep watching this space for that. I've got enough trouble posting here about minis and fiber, so at least there will be something interesting (hopefully) here. ;-)
We close the day after Valentine's, which I thought was kind of neat. FH is taking a half day at work so we can celebrate, steam off some ancient wallpaper, and have the locks all re-keyed. I will also be loading the car with as much fragile stuff as I can since we have to drive up there anyway that day. Why waste the space in the car? :-)
Once we have the keys I will probably only have time to post the "before pictures" and then I'll be gone for about two weeks. Between trying to get out of the rental by the end of the month and moving the internet connection to the new house, I doubt I'll be on-line very much.
I'm going to get off here and get back to work. Catch everyone later!

More of the Same
I've started packing the office. I'm running out of room in the living room to stack boxes, so I'm hoping I can make some room for boxes in there.
Currently FH and I are listening to the Saint vs. Vikings game and puttering around.
I guess we'd better get back to it.

Packing Blues
As of today I have packed 95% of the books in the living room. Art is safely boxed up in his original packaging and my matrushkas are wrapped in a box. In order to be done with the living room bookcases I need to get more bubble wrap (for the minis and family photos) and box up the remaining books. [Incidentally since the picture of Art was taken for the archived post a total of six mini settings are residing on the living room bookcases.] Once that's done I need to finish packing the closet and I will be finished with all available non-essentials in this room. Of course being sick since Thursday hasn't helped any...
Today I hope to finish the living room, get some cleaning done, pack some of the office, and pack a bit more of my craft closet. Of course we all know that sturdy paving material can be made from good intentions. We'll see what happens later.
I did decide that I'm going to cheat a bit and not remove all the glass from my framed pictures. Before any of you panic, let me assure you that since this move is not cross country I plan on carrying boxes of picture frames in our car to the new house. No jostling on a moving van, no movers in a hurry to be done for the day. All fragile items are going to be shifted into my craft room once all the furniture is pulled out of there to keep it safe from overzealous movers. In fact, my house plants and all of the animals will be shut in that room as well on moving day. I'm quite certain that Confetti's irritated growling will keep anyone from opening the door, especially once they see the "Do Not Open," sign over the handle.
Tomorrow the quilters from the stitcher's guild are meeting to discuss our big project for the year. That will be a nice break from the insanity.
