All Kinds of News

First: it's NOT a hernia! I just have to keep taking it easy for a couple more weeks and the pain should fade. Pixel was so excited she had to pop out of the dehydrator's box.

Second: FuzzyHusband successfully made it to the originally planned snowshoe hiking/camping area with his friends and they're off the grid. You couldn't pay me enough to be on the shore of Lake Superior right now. No sir and/or ma'am! I hope they're having fun though. Two critters in particular are missing him though.

Third: We got a wee bit more snow here, but mostly had crazy winds. Thankfully I don't even need to brush snow off the driveway to get out. Most of it ended up in the back yard.

Fourth: I'm about to start in on this lovely little number for one of the burlesque dancers. If possible I want to take a muslin of the jacket to rehearsal tonight. But we all know how good intentions go.

Fifth: I'm now officially part of the burlesque troupe as a production member. This means I'll be able to actually say I'm part of the group and not just their occasional seamstress. One of the things I'll be doing for them is orchestrating their social media presence and helping the other production member with the website when he's unavailable. Once the website is done and live, I'll be linking to it on the sidebar.

That's all the crazy news here. How are things in your parts of the world? See you next weekend and stay warm!

Snow Daze

Report from the doc's office says I need an ultrasound to rule out an abdominal tear that would get bigger by doing things like: laundry, walking a 100 pound dog, and carrying bins of holiday decorations up and down the stairs. So until this coming Thursday I have lifting restrictions on top of the "ice/heat/take it easy" orders. Ordinarily that would be frustrating as heck, but a random act of viral infection, complete with a fever of over 100F made it easier to not care. Kitten cuddles made it bearable.

Before the fever set in I got started in heavily planning a costume for one of our dancers. It's rather... hmmm.... we shall say "geared for a specific audience" and "very adult themed." My portion of the costume work will be styled around the riding gowns worn during the Victorian period. FuzzyHusband, our resident leather worker, will be constructing the portion of the costume that gets revealed once the Victorian gown bits are stripped away. It's a tag team effort to say the least.

Speaking of costume pieces being flung around, I was supposed to be in a car driving home from a burlesque festival in Kentucky this weekend. But between the fever that wouldn't die and this yesterday:

... the trip was cancelled. The other ladies were still panning to go until this storm actually hit with the forces predicted. If you look closely in that photo you'll see two white tailed deer slowly making their way up the ravine.

This storm wasn't a total bummer though. Himself and two of his bestest friends took advantage of the chance to practice with their snowshoes and sleds before their trip north next weekend.

There used to be a large golf course about 3 miles from our home. It's been turned into a park and the pro shop building is now a restaurant, bar, and bakery. So they spent yesterday playing in the snow and then got to warm up with grown up treats. FH did bring me some cookies when he finally got home. Obviously I didn't go with.

The snow stopped falling sometime in the middle of the night. There's about a foot to remove from the driveway. Someone's going to regret forgetting to have the snow thrower serviced this summer.... but it won't be me!

My fever has officially broken now, but I've still got the lifting restrictions to work around. We're tag-teaming the laundry and some other chores today. I'd like to get the house tidied up before he's gone for a week. Especially if the ultrasound shows a muscle tear.

I'm off to oversee the sorting of laundry and whatnot. See you next weekend!

Slow and Unsteady

Not sure what I've done to myself, but I think I've pulled a muscle in my abdomen. Few things irritate me more than when it hurts to sneeze. *sigh*

So I've been slacking this week trying to keep it from getting worse. Taking it easy hasn't helped much, so I'm calling my GP's office Monday. Of course this is right in the middle of her maternity leave, so I"ll have to see one of the other people.

Not much else has been happening. I'd planned on doing some miniatures over New Year's, but friends talked me into going out to dinner with them instead. So between balancing regular housework and trying to behave for the pulled muscle, not much else has been happening.

FuzzyHusband is getting ready to go on a hiking trip... and by hiking I specifically mean snowshoeing. I'll have several days to play and work on my own schedule while he's off playing in the snow with friends.

We did have a bit of fun Skyping with our sister-in-law on Wednesday. We got to see the nephews open their holiday gifts. Or at least the 3 year old opened the gifts. He did show his infant brother his toys though. It was darling. He's such a wonderful big brother.

On Thursday I covered a friend in saran wrap and duct tape. He's an avid cosplayer and needs to make a pattern for a couple of new bodysuits. Think: Superman. The best way to do that is to create a duct tape double, and of course you have to protect one's skin, so that's why the saran wrap's used. FH helped, which sped up the process tremendously.

And Saturday we had to take apart the dryer to find "whatever" had died in there. The whatever turned out to be a vole that somehow made it past the screen on the dryer vent and was inside the ventilation pipe. I get to rewash an entire load of linens now. I shall spare you the photo of the corpse. We bleached the section of hose connector that I found it in. Ick.

So I should go run the dryer again to vent out anymore stink and hope we cleaned it well enough. I"ll have my hands full later getting costume ideas sorted for the next burlesque show. Rarely a dull moment and I wouldn't have it any other way.
