Baby Anna is a big girl as of today. She's three! I still have a hard time believing it and I saw her yesterday running amok with a new baby doll stroller. *sigh*
Anyways I decided she needed something fun that wasn't awash in pink for her birthday since I knew everyone else in the world would take care of that for me. So I dug through my pattern drawers and came up with these.
Adorable finger puppets of crawly things, complete with "bag basket" storage container. The pattern is Butterick B4478. I made a few adjustments here and there, depending on what looked good and functioned better. Here's a better look at the basket. It's made from felt and latch hook canvas.
Now for the cute crawly things:
Overall I'm not too pleased with the way the round heads (spider, dragonfly, bee) turned out. The felt fabric wasn't the best quality (I'm not willing to spend a ton of money on 100% wool felt for a child's toy) and therefore was tricky to sew in a circle. But I love the sweet faces. The snail's eyes are even on the antennae stalks.
The wings and spots were supposed to be fused together with fusible web, but I haven't had much luck with that and this type of felt in the past. Instead I glue-basted them in place and then sewed a zigzag stitch to hold them in place. Not only does it hold better, but it looks neat as well.
I must admit I was sad to see the snail go. He's the reason I bought the pattern in the first place. I believe I shall make myself one to keep at some point. I'm also fond of the spider and ladybug.
I'll have more pictures of Musical Roses on Monday. See you then!
This is absolutely adorable! My grandson is 2 and would love something like this! You're so talented!
ReplyDeleteKat these are so stinkin' cute. I can't even pick a favorite. What a great pattern, the latch hook basket is perfect.
